Trash and Recycling

Trash

Trash pick up is Tuesday and Friday.

Please place trash out for pick up on Tuesday and Friday mornings. All trash must be placed in a plastic garbage bag and securely tied.  Residents are encouraged to set out their trash by 6 a.m. on collection day.  If your trash is in a covered trash receptacle, you may place it out Monday evening and Thursday evening AFTER DARK.

Bundled materials may not exceed four feet in length; no bundle or trash container may exceed 50 lbs.  Trash must be set out separately from recyclables. For large items, please notify AAA Trash 24 hours in advance of your pickup day. For appliances, metal, or heavy items AAA will service with a different vehicle. Please call AAA customer service department at (703) 818-8222 for the schedule of these pickup dates. There is a nominal fee for the special pickup based on the type of item. Prices begin at $50.00.

Items set out for regular trash collection should not include:  tree stumps, dirt, stone, rock or brick, dead animals, manure, asbestos, containerized liquids, freon-containing appliances, scrap metal, household hazardous waste, waste generated by a tree removal company or home renovation firm.

Yard Debris and Christmas Trees

Yard debris pick up is Wednesday.

All yard waste to be collected must be prepared accordingly and placed to the curb for collection.  Residents must place yard debris out separately from March 1-December 24. Note: Composting, chipping and mulching are great ways to recycle your yard waste. These products can be used to improve the overall health of your lawn and garden. It is our goal to pick up what is set out for collection but during peaks in yard waste production, AAA may limit collection to 20 bags of yard waste per pick-up day.

Brush and limbs must be cut into 4-foot lengths, bundled with rope or twine and should not exceed 50 pounds.  Grass clippings, leaves and twigs can be placed in paper bags, personal containers, clear plastic bags or black plastic bags marked with an “X”. Tree limbs that are larger than 6 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length will not be collected. All unbundled brush will be considered a special pick-up.

AAA typically provides Christmas tree removal service on the first two Wednesdays in January. Any trees to be removed thereafter will be removed with trash pickup.  Please place the trees at the curb with all trimmings removed. Trees in excess of 8 feet in length need to be cut in half in order to be removed by our crews.

Recycling

Recycling pick up is Tuesday.

Recycling may be placed out for pick up on Monday evening AFTER DARK.

Trash cans and recycling bins must be stored in the fenced back yard only. Storage of trash and/or recycling bins other than the fenced back yard may result in a fine.
